Wednesday, May 14, we invite you to a new cooltural (cool + cultural) conference, where we revive the memory of the past and turn the vacations of yesteryear into perfect inspiration for the summer ahead!
Summer is knocking at the door, so if you’re looking for an original escape from the everyday routine, join us for an elegant journey into the past — right in the heart of interwar Bucharest, a golden age where refinement, art, and the joy of living were beautifully intertwined.
At the beginning of the last century, vacations weren’t just moments of relaxation; they were true rituals of elegance. The city’s elite families would retreat in the summer to Sinaia, known as „the pearl of the Carpathians,” where they strolled through the royal estate or attended concerts in the Casino garden. Others preferred Balchik, the pearl of the Romanian seaside back then, a beloved spot of Queen Marie and the artists of the time. Those interested in spa treatments headed to Băile Herculane, an imperial resort with Viennese charm. And for those who stayed in the capital, Hotel Lido was an exotic oasis, home to Romania’s first wave pool — a meeting place for the city’s elites.
We’ll talk about the walks along Șoseaua Kiseleff, where ladies showed off their summer hats and gentlemen talked politics and business; about elegant evenings at Capșa, where ideas were debated and careers launched; about summer gardens and Art Deco cinemas, fine tastes, fashion, and the music flowing from vintage gramophones.
We’ll take an imaginary stroll through old theatre halls, listen to Maria Tănase, lose ourselves in the bohemian charm of the era, and admire a selection of vintage photographs.
