SUPRAINFINIT Gallery, together with Goethe-Institut Bucharest and PUNCH, are delighted to launch PROCESS, the artist book of Peleș Duo, a collectible printed archive marking the 20 years activity of the artist duo.
We are proudly hosting the event, with a selection of their new artworks to be be on display, within the eclectic interiors of Captain Dimitrie Pandele’s former XIX century residence.
In 2005 Peleș Duo (formerly Peleș Empire) began their collaboration by opening an illegal bar in Frankfurt’s red light district. The space featured wallpapers made of A3 colour copies reproducing, nearly to scale, a room of the 19th Century Peles Castle, located in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains. Peleș Castle exemplifies historicism as each room is a copy of a different architectural style, anticipating postmodernism nearly one hundred and twenty years before it started. The same act of copying or translation that birthed the Peleș Castle informs the artists’ own approach to studio production, transforming the process, temporarily, into the actual artwork. The act of copying becomes more important than the copy itself. Peles Duo dissects and reshuffles the supposedly original meaning of somewhere, something, or someone, in order to question what time and culture has made it.
The artist book is published together with PUNCH, a specialist publisher and bookshop based in Bucharest.
