On November 26, at 6:30 PM, we invite you to a new cooltural conference held in the historic house of Captain Dimitrie Pandele, together with Dr. Ioana Popa, a researcher passionate about urban history and the residential architecture of Bucharest.
We often walk along the city streets without really looking around — hurried, distracted, or perhaps lost in our own thoughts. Rarely do we lift our eyes to the richly ornamented façades of old houses, to the wrought-iron balconies, or to the stained-glass windows that still preserve the colors of another time.
In a world of speed and constant change, this conference invites us to an exercise of slowing down and rediscovery – an incursion into the Bucharest of the aristocracy, of salons, of elegance, and of refined details.
We will learn stories about palaces and residences built between the second half of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th century, a period in which the city underwent a spectacular transformation, becoming the Little Paris of Eastern Europe.
From the Cantacuzino Palace on Calea Victoriei – one of the most sumptuous residences of the Belle Époque era – to the houses of the Brătianu family, symbols of the political and intellectual spirit of the time, and to the house of architect Ion Mincu, where he lived and worked during the last years of his life – each building hides a universe of stories.
Through archival images, anecdotes, and little-known details, we will discover the history and destinies of the residents of these houses – people who shaped not only the architectural landscape, but also the culture and identity of modern Bucharest.
This meeting is an invitation to see the city differently, to rediscover the emotion behind the walls, and to understand how architecture reflects the life, tastes, and aspirations of an era.
You will enjoy a relaxed evening full of stories, images, and fascinating details, in the elegant setting of a house from another time.
