NIJINSKI with Filip Ristovski returns to Strada Plantelor!
Another house, the same fabulous performance about genius, fragility, art, and madness.
Vaslav Nijinski considered himself Polish. He was born in Kyiv. He was educated in Tsarist Russia. He lived in Switzerland. He died in London. He is buried in Paris. He danced on the great stages of the world. He is a legend – and remains to this day one of the greatest dancers of all time.
Affected by the consequences of war, a marriage that proved to be a mistake, his separation from Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, and the incomprehension of those around him, at the peak of his creative powers, at the age of 29, he began to show the first signs of madness.
Before he turned 30, Nijinski was diagnosed with schizophrenia and committed to an asylum, where he lived for another three decades. In just a few weeks, before his final decline, he wrote his diaries – fragmentary, haunting texts, partially published during his lifetime and surrounded by controversy.
Today, The Diary of Vaslav Nijinsky is available in English and forms the basis of this performance dedicated to the “mad genius of dance.”
This is a one-man show about madness, life, dance, friendship, and love.
“Applause is not an opinion. Applause is a feeling of love for the artist.”
