On Wednesday, July 30, we invite you to a new cooltural conference that will take us through the cherished summer destinations of Romania’s Royal Family — places where history, tradition, and refinement mingled under the summer sun. Nestled between the forests of the Carpathians and the waves of the Black Sea, among rose gardens and rocky vistas, the monarchs of Romania found rest, inspiration, and serenity.

Peleș Castle in Sinaia, with its neo-Gothic towers and immaculate gardens, was the beloved summer residence of King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth. Yet Queen Elisabeth also adored the sea — she was fond of Constanța, and the seaside resort now known as Eforie Sud once bore the name Carmen Sylva, her literary pseudonym.

Queen Marie, charismatic and deeply connected to all things beautiful and spiritual, fell in love with Bran, Balchik, and Sinaia. These places offered her not only refuge but also artistic and cultural inspiration, becoming sacred spaces where imagination and duty coexisted in harmony.

King Ferdinand and King Carol II sought tranquility at Scroviștea, a discreet, secluded estate where nature provided solace from political unrest and invited quiet reflection.

King Michael spent his childhood summers in Mamaia, close to the sea. Later, during exile, he spent time in Florence with his mother — the refined city of arts. Eventually, his heart remained tied to Săvârșin, a simple yet profound place, where each summer became a homecoming — to the land and to his roots.

These destinations speak not only of royal holidays but of a more intimate side of history — moments when sovereigns, far from protocol and ceremony, lived their summers in carefully chosen, soul-nurturing retreats.

The conference will be led by historian Anita Sterea, known for her engaging, heartfelt, and accessible storytelling that brings history vividly to life. The event will take place at Casa Plan Patru, which will open its doors for a full tour before the conference begins.
